By combining standards for quality improvement, loans for healthcare providers, health plans and in-depth impact research we simultaneously stimulate the demand for, and supply of healthcare services. Position Overview

The Medical Advisor will provide medical oversight and expertise to the health management and ideation and solutions in collaboration with crosscutting program lines. He/she will ensure that medical standards and guidelines are incorporated into programs and activities in line with the local context, provide medical advice to programs and (operational) research design & implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical guidance

  • Responsible for delivering clear, documented content, medical analysis and advice, specifically to product/program development, decision making and implementation.
  • Provide deep knowledge of active/planned programs, experiments or pilots on products, or solutions that the organisation may pursue.
  • Contribute medical context into marketing and commercial strategies aimed at developing market driven solutions for sustainability of targeted programs, services or products
    • Translate complex medical information, guideline and regulatory provisions into understandable content and context for various programs, products or audiences.
    • Medical research and Innovations: 
  • Serve as a medical counterpart to external researchers evaluating PharmAccess’ interventions in Kenya, as local research coordinator, in collaboration with PharmAccess Research & Learning Amsterdam
  • Contribute to setting up, and implementing medical interventions as part of PharmAccess patient care journeys in Kenya
  • Provide technical support to the Kenya PharmAccess epidemic preparedness strategy, including (private sector) IDSR monitoring, predictive modeling in line with the new Kenyan National Health Security agenda
  • Secure (third-party research on) PharmAccess interventions to be in line with national ethical standards (clearance) and NACOSTI compliance
  • Co-analyze and critically assess quality of clinical data, perform interim analyses, in collaboration with Amsterdam PharmAccess R&L team
  • Secure medical correctness of PharmAccess’ projects information dissemination and communications in Kenya
  • Identify and follow up on funding opportunities for clinical research in collaboration with PharmAccess R&L Team Amsterdam


    • Program Development
    • Responsible for ensuring PharmAccess programs and research work meet standards required by medical and regulatory agencies. 
    • Coordinate programs and provide clinical documented content and advice as needed to ensure programs achieve set goals
    • Responsible for design and review of medical Key Performance Indicators linking to our different programs
    • Work closely together with our Kisumu site/UHC teams, identify supply side gaps, develop measurable health outcomes, and provide advice on the benefit package.
    • Support the development of medical content for M-TIBA packages (MomCare, Safe Mama-Tech, Insurance packages and any other new or existing value-based [VBHC] initiatives).
    • Contribute to development of clear, cross-cutting measurable health outcomes and identify new opportunities for improvement or addition to digital packages that benefit the clients.
    • Provide input to the medical content of SafeCare in alignment with SafeCare’s strategic direction, and in agreement with the SafeCare leadership to further strengthen the SafeCare monitoring.
    • Ensure that standards are in tandem with local context, policy and regulatory provisions
    • Provide regular training to PST and SafeCare team in conjunction with experts
    • Conduct a final evaluation to determine project outcomes, key learnings and implications
    • Support the advocacy and dissemination of program learnings to integrate into practice and policy for the benefit of healthcare consumers 
    • Key stakeholder engagement 
  • Build and retain relations with the relevant parties including Key Opinion Leaders and academic centres within the public and private sector and attain influential understanding and input in decision making

Deliver scientific presentations and capacity building to healthcare professionals (HCPs) and related partners in line with program and patient activity requirements.

Convene and Co-ordinate advisory boards, Technical Working Groups and expert panel meetings and roundtables

  • Liaison contact between PharmAccess Kenya and PAI Amsterdam medical team.
  • Represent the organisation and its senior management whenever required to medico-scientific forums and events.
    • Act as the principal delegate to the government on matters affecting medical, clinical and service policy and regulatory provisions
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum MD (MBChB) qualification holder

    A post-graduate training in medicine or related health services/specialisations will be an added advantage.

    Required Skills & Experiences

    At least five years’ post-qualification experience in medical practice or similar roles, with exposure to working in a competitive environment with multiple stakeholders.

    Holder of a valid KMPDCU certification and practice License having fulfilled all requirements.

    Experience working with programs will be a considered advantage.
