Background

Since its launch in 2010, SafeCare has grown into a leading Healthcare quality improvement initiative, now supporting globally more than 9,000 healthcare facilities. SafeCare provides a standards-based, data-driven approach that helps facilities improve quality, reduce risks, and strengthen performance.
As of January 1st, 2026, the SafeCare Foundation, as part of the PharmAccess Group, will continue the standardized SafeCare approach and global scaling efforts, in close collaboration with the Quality Innovation team within PharmAccess. This shift marks the transition from an NGO program to a sustainable business approach, ensuring that more facilities and partners can benefit from SafeCare’s tools and methodologies.
In Kenya, the mandate is to ensure that SafeCare staff and operational costs are fully covered by paying clients and donors, and that SafeCare Kenya becomes a break-even business by 2029 as part of the SafeCare Foundation.

Position Overview

The Business Development & Operations Manager drives business growth and operational coordination. The role requires a strong commercial mindset, hands-on execution ability, and sales skills to grow the base of self-paying clients. The Manager ensures accurate and up-to-date management of activities, contracts, and performance tracking through the CRM system.

Key Responsibilities

A. Business Development: (55% Dedication)
  • Through market insights, identify, pursue and develop business opportunities that result in new customer recruitment, market expansion and revenue growth in line with annual targets.
  • Develop and execute strategies to expand on self-paying clients, government and donor supported business opportunities.
  • Develop sales plans, revenue forecasts, and execution plans for the attainment of the same through management and coordination of external implementation partners to deliver service to clients to sustain strong business relationships.
  • Proactively engage private providers, networks, insurers, and other potential clients.  Prepare and coordinate quarterly performance meetings with license partners.
  • Maintain an active CRM pipeline, ensuring all client interactions, contracts, and leads are updated. 
  • Provide commercial insights to strengthen the SafeCare value proposition.
  • Development of monthly, quarterly and annual reports to support management decision on the maximization of opportunities, risk mitigation and growth of the SafeCare brand and business model in Kenya.
B. Operational support (15% Dedication)
  • Support daily operational implementation of SafeCare activities. 
  • Ensure quality and efficiency of service delivery. 


C. Program Monitoring & Reporting (10% Dedication)  

  • Track KPIs using dashboards and the CRM system.   
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for SafeCare leadership. 
  • Support continuous improvement of planning and monitoring tools. 
  • Support timely donor and project reporting. 


D. License Partner and Assessor Pool coordination (10% Dedication)  

  • Support training, onboarding, and performance oversight of license partners. 
  • Monitor contract compliance and ensure all documents are stored and updated in the CRM. 
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to increase SafeCare’s presence in the market.
  • Facilitate review meetings and performance evaluations. 


C. Financial & Budgetary Responsibilities (10% Dedication)    

  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting. 
  • Track expenditures and revenue from license partners and self-paying clients. 
  • Follow up on (outstanding) invoices and contract deliverables. 


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or related field; Health sciences qualification preferred.

Required Skills & Experience

  • >8 years of proven sales experience, preferably in healthcare or service-based industries with demonstrated progressive seniority in a complex environment.
  • Strong hands-on execution and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to close deals and grow commercial pipelines. 
  • Demonstrated strong strategy setting, business and process planning, review and reporting skills.
  • Strong trouble shooting and risk mitigation skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. 
  • Strong customer relationship management abilities. 
  • Proficiency with CRM systems for contract management and sales tracking. 
  • Analytical skills with ability to translate data into decisions. 
  • Strong project and operations management experience. 
  • Ability to work independently with a proactive, “can-do” mentality. 
  • High level of integrity, adaptability, and teamwork.
